It started at 11, in middle school, when I got my first MacBook. I built my first command-line calculator in C++. Back then I dreamed of making a video game inspired by the film Chappie. A (slightly too) ambitious project for a middle-schooler, but it showed me I already had a maker’s mind. I found Scratch around the same time, then at 15, in high school, I took the ICN option (computing and digital creation), where I learned the basics of Python.
At 16 I picked the NSI specialty (digital and computer science). That’s where everything really began. I built a meal recommendation app in JavaScript, then rewrote it several times in Vue 2 to improve its architecture. The COVID lockdown gave me free time, and I spent it levelling up. That’s when I made one of the most important choices of my life: joining Hiberfile, an open source alternative to WeTransfer, as lead developer. That project taught me both the front end and the back end, with a few hundred users to look after.
After high school I joined HETIC, a school known for development. I went for
a bachelor’s in data and AI rather than web, because I wanted to explore new
ground. That choice turned out well: data and AI now sit at the heart of
technology.
At HETIC I chose to focus on the structure of my projects and clean
code, while the program aimed to teach us to ship value fast. Today, doing a
master’s at EEMI, I have done the opposite: the program is built to teach us
how to architect projects, and I have focused on shipping value fast. The
result? I now handle both key sides of development: a scalable architecture
and efficient delivery. That mix lets me make the best trade-offs for what
you need, whether that is a quick prototype or something built to last.
Today I would call myself a very general developer. I have explored a lot of languages and technologies over the years, which lets me adapt to almost any project. Whether it is TypeScript, Rust, React Native or plenty of other tools, I am comfortable diving into new ecosystems and finding the best fit. My goal? Stay close to what projects actually need while I keep exploring and learning.
